Aquarius Announces Fifth Annual “Feed a Family” Program

Goal is to Surpass Last Year’s Total and feed 1,200 families.

LAUGHLIN, NV – October 24, 2016 – For the fifth consecutive year, Aquarius Casino Resort announces the return of the highly successful “Feed A Family” program, an ace | PLAYTM member points contribution program which helps local families who struggle with hunger during the holidays.

From Tuesday, November 1 through Sunday, December 25, 2016, ace | PLAY card members can contribute points that will go directly to putting a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal on the table of a local tri-state family in need.

Last year Aquarius was able to feed 1,140 families, that's 4,560 people, thanks to the incredible generosity of its ace | PLAY members who contributed points to the program. Aquarius is asking loyal ace | PLAY members to help top that number this year.

“We have witnessed the incredible kindness and generosity of our ace | PLAY members, and the success of this program is due to their willingness to give back to the community,” said Aquarius Casino Resort General Manager Sean Hammond. “Our goal is to make giving easy. There are so many families in our area that need just a little bit of assistance. We want to help make everyone’s holiday feel like a holiday.”

The Aquarius to help families in the tri-state community by working with these organizations: Colorado River Food Bank, Laughlin, NV; Food For Families, Bullhead City, AZ; Caring Hearts Food Ministry, Inc., Bullhead City, AZ; Golden Valley Food Bank, Golden Valley, AZ; Kingman Food Bank, Kingman, AZ; Cornerstone Mission, Kingman, AZ; The Interagency Council Food Bank, Lake Havasu City, AZ; and Women’s Club of Needles, Needles, CA.

Arizona is one of the worst states in the United States when it comes to child hunger. In Arizona, 1 in 3 children; 1 in 5 adults; and 1 in 7 seniors struggle with hunger every day. Children are more vulnerable to poverty and food-insecurity because they have to rely on others to give them food. The latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey showed that 27.0% of children under the age of 18 in Arizona lived in poverty in 2014. 28.2% of children in Arizona have food-insecurity.

Nevada also experiences food-insecurity, in regards to children. In Clark County, more than 64% of children receive free and reduced-price meals. The child food-insecurity rate in Nevada is 28.1%, almost the same amount as Arizona.

Unemployment is another factor that affects the rate of food-insecurity and poverty. In August, 2016, both Arizona and Nevada were in the top rankings for highest unemployment rates in the United States. A great way to help combat the food-insecurity problem is to donate to local food banks that can distribute needed provisions and nutrition to these children.
