Volunteers From Aquarius Casino Resort
Renovate Local World War II Veteran’s Home

Aquarius partners with The Green Cactus Project
to help Marine hero with needed home repairs

LAUGHLIN, NEV. – May 24, 2016 – Aquarius Casino Resort  team members partnered with non-profit organization, American Center for Educational Opportunities (AMCEO) to assist a local World War II Marine veteran, Abraham ‘Al’ Eutsey and his wife, Sandy with necessary renovations for their mobile home. The Eutsey family’s renovations were made possible through AMCEO’s outreach program, The Green Cactus Project, which assists elderly and disabled veterans in need of assistance with home improvements.

Eutsey earned his Purple Heart medal in one of the bloodiest and most famous battles of World War II, Iwo Jima. Of the 250 men in his unit, 67 lost their lives, 177 men including Eutsey were injured, and only 6 walked away physically unharmed. Eutsey was part of the legendary Marine Corps division that raised the first American flag on Iwo Jima and is still considered the best fighting unit in Marine Corps history. On behalf of the Iwo Jima National Society, Eutsey recently traveled back to the island and reunited with fellow American and Japanese veterans 71 years after conflict. Today, Eutsey is a town hero and is treated as such as Kingman’s Home Depot is in the process of building a handicapped ramp made specifically for Eutsey.

“I am incredibly proud of our Aquarius volunteers that team up with The Green Cactus Project each year,” said Sean Hammond, Aquarius Casino Resort General Manager. “It is an absolute honor to lend a helping hand to the Eutsey family and assist our nation’s veterans.”

Five Aquarius team members dedicated their time to the home improvement project including John Fleck, Hector Relevez, Chris Baca and Sondra Mix of the resort’s Engineering department and Maria Flores with Human Resources. Thanks to retail donations from Bed, Bath & Beyond, Home Depot Housing and assistance from Wells Fargo Housing Foundation, the Aquarius team had the necessary supplies to install new carpet flooring and to paint the exterior and interior of the Eutsey’s double-wide mobile home. Aquarius Casino Resort has proudly partnered with The Green Cactus Project for six years, fully supporting its mission to provide healthy living environments for veterans in need.
