LAUGHLIN, NEV. – August 21, 2017 – For the 8th year in a row Aquarius Casino Resort Team Members spent the month of July collecting pens, notebooks, markers, pencils, crayons and more in a property wide School Supply Drive to help three local schools start the year off with the resources they need. A total of 15,897 items were collected which was an increase of 1,765 more items or 12.5% increase over prior year.
"On behalf of the students of Coyote Canyon School, who will benefit from the thousands of dollars of school supplies donated from the Aquarius Employees, I want to thank these individuals who believe in education and understand that students who could otherwise not afford such supplies will now have the items they need to succeed with their education.” said Sandra Brown, Principal of Coyote Canyon Elementary School in Bullhead City, AZ. “Thank you for caring about the needs of others”.
All five divisions: General and Administrative, Marketing and Player Development, Hotel Operations, Casino Operations and Food and Beverage compete in a friendly competition and the rights to the yellow school bus trophy. “Aquarius Team Members have always stepped up to the plate when there is a need in our community” said Sean Hammond, General Manager of the Aquarius Casino Resort. “Many of our employees have personal connections to these schools. Realistically, if you don’t have a student that attends then you know someone who does; you know a teacher or an administrator. Someone close to you will benefit from these supplies.”
Christine Owens, Director of Player Development and shopper for Marketing shared her experience while shopping for the drive: “I’m in Target and placing 100 boxes of Crayons from my cart onto the checkout stand waiting my turn to purchase. A women in front of me paying for her items asked if I was a teacher. I explained, I work at the Aquarius Casino Resort and the team members hold an annual fundraiser to purchase school supplies to help some of the schools in our area and I was helping with the shopping. She said “that is just awesome!” She finished paying for her items and left. As I approached the cashier she looked at me fondly and I said “Hello, How are you today?” the cashier said, “I’m great” and proceeded to hold up a one hundred dollar bill and said “that gal just gave you one hundred dollars for your school drive.” I was AMAZED! I turned to see if I could still see the Good Samaritan to thank her, but she had already left the store. A huge shout out to the Good Samaritan who graciously donated to our community, THANK YOU!”
The General and Administrative division won for the 3rd year in a row with 7,241 items. The schools supplies were counted, divided and personally delivered by Aquarius Team members to Bennett Elementary School in Laughlin, NV, Coyote Canyon Elementary School in Bullhead City, AZ, and Black Mountain K-8 School in Golden Valley, AZ.
